The Coolest Christmas
Whew, made it. The second day and I almost miss my goal. Damn. Well, on with the show. A compilation of artists ranging through the years, this album has some hits and misses. Roy Orbison has his song “Pretty Paper”, which just annoys me. And “Santa Baby” sung by Eartha Kitt? She may have been sexy back in the day, but now whenever I think of her, I picture Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove. Eww. There are some interesting bits here as well. The Cocteau Twins give a version of “Frosty the Snowman” with a distinctive 80’s twist. Guy Lombardo has “Auld Lang Syne”, the new year’s song. I’ve never heard a new year’s song on a Christmas album, but it works. My favorite one here though, is “Jingle Bells” by the Clancy Brothers. Jingle Bells is without a doubt the most tired and pedestrian Christmas song ever, but they make it a fun, lively ride. Overall, a decent Christmas album.
