A Very Special Christmas
White Death descends upon our secret base in southwestern Ohio. Perfect day for “Walken in a Winter Wonderland”.
Today, I present “A Very Special Christmas”, another compilation with various Christmas songs on it. Probably the most recognizable track here is Eurythmics version of “Winter Wonderland”. Sting turns in an awesome version of “Gabriel’s Message”. And it’s got one of my favorite Christmas songs ever, Run-D.M.C.’s “Christmas in Hollis”, where the group details Christmas growing up in Hollis, Queens. It give me warm feelings hearing lyrics like “It’s Christmas time, in Hollis, Queens. Mom’s cooking chicken and collared greens!” It sounds weird, but I like it. However, it’s not all sunshine. Madonna gives a positively annoying version of “Santa Baby”, delivered in a Betty Boop type of voice, making her sound like the dumb bimbo she is. (Can you tell I don’t like Madonna? I have a theory that she only got popular because she sang about sex and ran around naked all the time. Then she realized she’s got no talent, and just copied everything she did off of Kylie Minogue, whose version of “Santa Baby” is actually better. But that’s another post.) Overall, a decent CD, definitely worth burning a copy off of someone you know who has it.
